NAHRA Fall Fling
This year the water level was higher longer than usual. The club has been looking for ways to increase membership and participation. We decided to put more effort/consistency in the monthly training day. That has seemed to be a positive move. We went back to a previous activity and had a BBQ at one of the training days. That was well attended and alot of fun plus increased our particiation numbers. We then decided to add another Licensed NAHRA Field Test to offer the local folks and club members a chance to enter (we did a single stake event vice our usual double stake). We used local judges, did not have a banquet/raffle and used measures to keep the expenses down. If you were not there this past Sat. & Sun. you should have been 'cause we had a fantastic time all around. The entries were low (as we expected) so we had a leisure approach, stopped for a BBQ lunch and the test was completed early. The club members, participants and visitors all pitched in and helped make it a very enjoyable two days in the field/along the lake. We ended the weekend with a Beginner stake that had 8/9 young dogs getting numerous retrieves on land and in the water.
Westwind Farms responded on short notice and was able to provide us with birds. Their ducks are always good and their service and friendship even better. Thanks Wendy, Jim and Aaron!
Dan Hosford came over to visit from Spokane and couldn't just set idle. He ended up throwing birds and planting blinds. Dan has been a club supporter for a long time. Dan's website (google "danhosfordtraining") has training tips and lots of good information and training programs for working retrievers.
Kate Johansson (google "fastpup"), a club member, has been extremely helpful with advertising our efforts to help with increasing participation. Visit her blog on her website and you will see posts about PSRC. Please comment on the blog as that puts us out on the net to gain more exposure. Look at the pictures on the blog. Plus Kate has offered to provide pictures to interested folks. Contact her via the blog. I can't wait to see the pictures of this weekend. Thanks Kate.
Here's the other particulars:
Tim and Julie Higgins ran the BBQ lunch festivities. Tim Lockard did the shopping. Julie (macaroni salad), Sarah Cundiff ("famous" beans), Lynn Beck (brownies), Diane Burlingame (ice & smoked salmon), Fran Seagren (assorted potato chips). If I missed anyone....oops-shame on me.
Rick Zimburean did his usual job of everything. Kept the birds, live gunned, worked another gun station, moved the equipment and I think he did some cooking on Sat. Sierra manned a gun station all weekend. And special thanks to Brandon for live gunning and also working other stations throughout the weekend.
Lisa Van Loo ran the stakes on Sat. and also manned a gun station. I'm sure glad she moved to our area.
Diane Burlingame marshalled both days and volunteered for field duty when the judges needed a blind planter on Sunday's water test.
Dan Hosford threw birds for Sat.'s Beginner stake and planted the land blind for the Intermedate stake also on Sat.
Dale Gorman was a live gunner both days and kept us all in line. Oh he handled the money also. Looks like besides a good time the club made almost $400. How about that!!!
Denton and Sarah Cundiff handled the paperwork in addition to helping with set up of the BBQ and the test.
Jim & Harry judged on Sat. And Marty and Tim judged on Sunday. Tim also judged and worked the Beginner Stake on Sunday.
Well done to all!!!
